Learner Assessment

Artifact: EPE 300 Grade 7 Physical Education – 7.4 Cross-Training – Evaluation View here

(This artifact will again be uploaded once it has been graded and appropriately improved)

Description:

Evaluation is a very important part of education and learning. As part of my EPE 300 course we were to create an evaluation for a specified unit of study. I created my evaluation for the Grade 7 Outcome 7.4 Cross-Training of the new Middle Years Physical Education Curriculum. I chose to create a rating scale for the evaluation tool. This gave me some practical experience in creating an evaluation/assessment tool using an imaginary assignment.

Impact:

Creating an evaluation is not an easy task. One must consider what they are evaluating students on, whether their evaluation is congruent with their objectives and what they have been teaching. As I am reminded in EPE 300 it is important to always know where you want to end up in terms of lesson and unit planning. If you have the Evaluation in mind during the planning stages of the unit than it is likely that the evaluation will be relative to what was learned.

Intention/Challenges:

How do I ensure that my students are being fairly evaluated and able to demonstrate their knowledge of the content? When are the best times to evaluate and assess student learning? What should I be evaluating? Performance? Knowledge? Positive attitude? Why type of assessment tool should I use?

Recommendations:

It is important to think of the evaluation when I am planning what and how I am going to teach. If I keep the evaluation in mind the whole time than it will be easy to make sure that I am assessing the right thing. If my lessons are focused on performance than my evaluation should also be focused on performance. I believe it is important to give students many opportunities to display their learning while also making it manageable for the teacher to assess the students. As far as the appropriate assessment tool I think it will depend on the content I am teaching and if done correctly I believe that the type of tool used should never put students at a disadvantage.
