Artifact: ECMP 355 – Technology and Computers in the Clasroom,

Description:

During the Spring 2008 semester I took ECMP 355 from Alec Couros. This was one of the most amazing classes that I have ever taken. I learned a ton of ways to incorporate technology/web2.0 in the classroom and how much technology can enhance and improve teaching and learning. I created a personal blog (this blog), a wiki for an Information Procession class (view) and learned about a ton of other amazing tools for educators that I now use. Some of these tools include delicious for social bookmarking and twitter for connecting, sharing and learning with educators from around the world. Not only did I learn about tools I was also able to see how powerful a persons network can be when you use the tools correctly. I have slowly been able to build my own personal learning network using these various tools to connect. Through my personal learning network I can learn about new resources, share my work and receive feedback as to how to make it better, and also give others feedback on their work.

Impact:

Initially, this course was a lot for me to comprehend. I was being introduced to so many new things that it was tough to keep track of all the amazing resources. Once I found which resources would best benefit me it was great. Being a business education major, many of the tools and resources can apply nicely with classes like information processing or communications and production technology. Although throughout the class I noticed that there was a lack of physical educators using various web2.0 tools. This is something that I found to be unfortunate because there are so many things out there that can enhance the physical education experience.

Intention/Challenges:

What can I do to involve web2.0 tools in physical education? How can I encourage more physical educators to use the free tools that are available to them? How can I balance the level of technology integrated into physical education classes without taking away from the physical activity and movement?

Recommendations:

Having already created a blog/blogfolio I can encourage others to do so, allowing them to share ideas, connect and collaborate with physical educators across the globe. I must share what I have learned with others so that the physical educators of the world can connect with one another and become better teachers. Another idea is to create an online wiki where physical educators from near and far can add resources. I have just recently stumbled upon some great physical education wikis and would like to create my own.
